Gabby Thomas recently addressed and dismissed rumors of an alleged rivalry with fellow sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson. In a podcast interview, Thomas clarified that she and Richardson are on good terms, despite online speculation suggesting hostility, including claims of a physical altercation at their relay training camp before the Paris Olympics.
Thomas, a triple Olympic medalist, called these allegations some of the worst rumors she has faced, attributing them to a tendency among online fans to create drama between prominent athletes. She emphasized that there is no “beef” between her and Richardson, adding that although they do not train together and are not very close, they are respectful and work well together in relay events.
Thomas expressed frustration with the ongoing perception that she and Richardson are enemies, noting that this narrative often leads to false stories about supposed tension whenever they interact. She firmly stated, “I hate it, I can’t stand it,” expressing concern about the broader implications of such rumors for the Black community.
Both athletes had successful seasons, capturing medals at the Paris Olympic Games. Richardson earned a silver medal in the women’s 100m and helped anchor the U.S. women’s 4x100m relay team to victory. Thomas, meanwhile, won gold in the 200m event and played crucial roles in securing gold for Team USA in both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays.
