Sugar the Surfing Dog, Hall of Famer and 5x World Champ, Dies at 16

The surfing community is mourning the loss of Sugar the Surfing Dog, a five-time world champion who passed away at 16. She had been battling cancer and died peacefully in the arms of her owner, Ryan Rustan.

Sugar was widely loved for her impact on dog surfing, bringing joy to fans through competitions, public appearances, and charity work. She gained global attention and was often compared to legends like Kelly Slater due to her dominance in the sport. She even surfed at the famous Surf Ranch.

She also made history as the only dog ever inducted into the Surfers’ Hall of Fame in Huntington Beach, leaving a lasting legacy alongside some of surfing’s greatest names.

 

Her passing has left a deep void in the surfing world, but her influence and the happiness she spread will not be forgotten.
