Kelly Slater’s 2,000-Foot Austin Surf Park Promises Near-Perfect Waves
A new surf destination called the Austin Surf Club is being developed in Texas, featuring an advanced artificial wave system designed by Kelly Slater Wave Company. The project aims to deliver a controlled surfing experience that could rival natural ocean waves.
The facility will include more than just surfing. Plans show luxury condos, wellness centers, restaurants, gyms, and recreational lagoons. Several well-known figures—including Matthew McConaughey, Drew Brees, and Tony Hawk—have already invested in property there.
This project follows earlier successes like Surf Ranch in California and Surf Abu Dhabi in the UAE, both built using the same wave technology. These developments proved that artificial waves can deliver consistent and high-quality surfing conditions.
The Austin lagoon will stretch about 2,000 feet and feature a specially designed underwater structure. This setup allows waves to form, break, and reform multiple times, creating a longer and more dynamic ride.
According to Slater, one of the biggest advantages is predictability. Surfers will be able to plan sessions instead of relying on changing ocean conditions. He believes the waves produced here could be better than most natural waves because they are perfectly shaped and repeatable.
Although an official opening date has not yet been announced, the Austin Surf Club is already gaining attention as a major step forward in modern surfing and lifestyle communities.
