Dustin Johnson’s Stunning Comeback at LIV Golf Singapore
Dustin Johnson delivered a masterclass performance at LIV Golf Singapore presented by Aramco, shooting an 8-under-par 63 in the opening round. His bogey-free round secured him a three-shot lead, marking his best single-round performance in 109 starts at LIV Golf. Not only did Johnson’s form shine, but his 4Aces team also took the top spot in the team standings, positioning themselves for their first win since 2023.
Overcoming Injury Struggles
Johnson’s resurgence comes after a disappointing finish in Hong Kong, where he struggled with a back issue and finished last for the first time in a LIV event. However, at Singapore’s Sentosa Golf Club, he bounced back in spectacular fashion. Johnson hit 16 greens, missed only three fairways, and even sank a near 60-foot birdie putt on the par-3 14th hole.
Speaking at the LIV Golf Singapore press conference, Johnson reassured fans that he was back to full strength. “No, body feels good,” he stated confidently, dismissing any lingering concerns about his previous injury. “Feel like I’m swinging well, moving through the ball nicely. Hitting a lot of really quality golf shots.”
Reflecting on his struggles in Hong Kong, Johnson admitted that his injury had been an unexpected setback. “I was kind of leading into Hong Kong, too, and then it was just an unfortunate situation there because I didn’t really do anything to injure myself,” he explained. “I think I slept funny. It happens.”
Chasing History at LIV Golf
Now that Johnson has put his physical issues behind him, his focus is on making history. If he secures victory at Singapore, he will become the first player to win in all four LIV Golf seasons. His 4Aces team, which has been dominant in previous years, is also looking to break a nearly two-year winless streak.
Following his 8-under 63, Johnson followed up with a 3-under 68, tying for the lead heading into the final round. With his fourth individual LIV Golf title and a $4 million bonus on the line, Johnson is laser-focused on finishing strong.
“Kind of the same that I’ve been doing,” Johnson said about his game plan. “Obviously most important is getting it in the fairway off the tee and from there figure out how I can get the best look at birdie.”
A Turning Point for Johnson?
With his game back on track, Johnson is looking to reassert his dominance in LIV Golf. His fans and fellow competitors are now watching closely—can this performance signal a return to his best form?
With a commanding presence at Singapore, Johnson and his 4Aces team are primed for a long-awaited victory. The golf world now waits to see if he can finish the job and claim another major win in his storied career.
