Tiger Woods Coaches Scheffler and McIlroy in Long Iron Session Ahead of Masters
Just hours before the start of the 2025 Masters Tournament, Tiger Woods teamed up with Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy for a TaylorMade promotional video that turned into an impromptu long iron clinic. Although Woods isn’t competing at Augusta National due to his recovery from Achilles surgery, he took time to mentor two of the tournament’s biggest contenders.
In the session, Woods offered expert guidance as Scheffler and McIlroy worked on their long iron shots. One particular swing from Scheffler caught Woods’ attention—he struck the ball at 149 miles per hour with 4,911 RPM, launching it 86 feet high and covering 223 yards. Woods, impressed, praised the World No. 1, saying, “Great shot, Scottie!”
Scheffler then followed up with another strike clocking in at 148 mph with increased spin—5,398 RPM. Though it didn’t travel as far, the shot was still met with admiration from Woods and McIlroy. The trio also discussed how their approaches to the shot differed, with Scheffler and McIlroy each providing insight into their techniques.
Scheffler vs. McIlroy: Masters Showdown Brewing
As the Masters gets underway, all eyes are on Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, ranked World No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. While several big names are in the field, these two are seen as the leading contenders—especially with Woods sidelined.
According to ESPN, Scheffler is the favorite to win, with odds at +475, as he seeks to defend his title. McIlroy is not far behind at +625, as he aims to finally win the green jacket and complete his career Grand Slam.
Collin Morikawa trails the top duo with 14-1 odds, but the betting lines suggest that this year’s tournament may come down to a dramatic battle between McIlroy and Scheffler. Scheffler is scheduled to tee off at 10:15 a.m. EDT, with McIlroy set to begin at 1:12 p.m.
