After Bryson DeChambeau’s Major Hint to Tiger Woods, Fellow LIV Golf Star Takes Surprise Stance on TGL

Bryson DeChambeau recently made headlines with his surprising take on the TGL, a league spearheaded by Tiger Woods. Despite his association with LIV Golf, DeChambeau expressed enthusiasm for the new venture, stating that he would be interested in joining if given the opportunity. He acknowledged, however, that his participation might not be welcomed, humorously suggesting that his Crushers team could be involved. His comments indicate an openness to exploring different avenues in golf while recognizing the ongoing tensions between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour.

Now, DeChambeau is not the only LIV golfer to share his thoughts on the TGL. Martin Kaymer, another well-known player from the LIV circuit, recently voiced his opinion on the league during an interview on the 5 Clubs YouTube channel. His perspective may come as a surprise to some fans. Kaymer emphasized the importance of entertainment in golf, stating, “I do believe entertainment is number one… quickness that you don’t need to spend six, seven, eight, 10 hours on the golf course.” He acknowledged that both the TGL and LIV Golf are helping modernize the sport, remarking, “So I think all tours, I think they’re benefiting each other right now.”

Regarding the potential for a merger between different golf tours, Kaymer offered a balanced view. He mentioned that he does not necessarily believe a merger is required, as the current setup appears to be giving fans what they want. However, he did express that the best players in the world should compete against each other more often, stating, “The best players in the world should come together more often, so the youth and the more modern way of playing golf is also being approached over the last two, three years.”

While LIV golfers continue to clarify their stance on the TGL, world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler has also weighed in. Scheffler, who is not part of the new league, admitted that he has not watched much of it. “I haven’t watched much of it,” he confessed. Despite his limited exposure, he finds the TGL intriguing and believes it adds good energy to the sport. He suggested that it might help bring new fans into the golf world.

Scheffler revealed that he only caught brief glimpses of the TGL while working out or spending time with his family. He shared that he had seen parts of the competition while watching TV late at night or rocking his child to sleep. Although he has not followed it closely, he acknowledged its potential impact, stating, “I did catch – I was working out in the trailer last night and it was on. I watched like five minutes of the first one one night. I turned on like ESPN, I was rocking Bennett to sleep late at night and turned it on, caught quite a bit. I think it’s interesting. I think it’s good energy for the sport. I think maybe some new people are getting interested in golf. But overall I haven’t really paid too much attention to it, but last night was good.”

These recent comments from high-profile players like DeChambeau, Kaymer, and Scheffler provide an interesting perspective on the evolving landscape of professional golf. With differing views on the TGL and the current structure of the sport, the conversation around the relationship between LIV Golf, the PGA Tour, and emerging formats like the TGL continues to develop. The growing interest in alternative golf leagues raises questions about whether these initiatives can coexist or if they might eventually lead to a broader shift in the sport.
