A new broadcasting partnership between Top Rank and DAZN could open the door to several high-profile fights, and one potential matchup has already generated buzz. During a press conference announcing the deal, tensions flared when Keyshawn Davis had a heated exchange with WBO lightweight champion Abdullah Mason.
The confrontation came shortly after Davis publicly called out Devin Haney, who currently competes at welterweight. Davis has had a turbulent stretch in his career—winning his first world title before losing it after missing weight—but recently bounced back with an impressive victory over Jamaine Ortiz. That fight took place on a card headlined by Teofimo Lopez and Shakur Stevenson. Now ranked highly in both the WBO and IBF light welterweight divisions, Davis believes he is ready for another title opportunity.
Despite focusing on light welterweight and even eyeing a move up to welterweight, Davis also expressed strong interest in facing Mason at lightweight (135 lbs). At the press event, he repeatedly pushed Mason to commit to a fight within the year, directly asking whether it could happen soon.
Mason, however, remained calm and simply responded that he was open to making the fight happen. His composed answer seemed to frustrate Davis, who accused him of being reluctant and claimed he was having to “pull teeth” just to get a clear commitment. Davis also pointed out that Mason appeared physically bigger, while emphasizing his own ambitions to move up in weight to challenge bigger names like Haney.
When Mason brought up the fact that Davis is not currently a world champion, Davis dismissed the importance of titles. He argued that recognition among fans and fighters matters more than belts, insisting that audiences care about the fighters themselves rather than official titles.
Davis further explained that he no longer holds a title at lightweight because he has moved up to light welterweight. According to him, his departure from the division helped create the opportunity for the vacant WBO title, which Mason later claimed by defeating Sam Noakes.
The situation became even more intriguing with Davis’ continued pursuit of Haney. He reiterated his desire to face the WBO welterweight champion and claimed he had anticipated being avoided after defeating Ortiz. Davis said he had warned his manager, J Prince, that a dominant performance would make potential opponents hesitant to face him. Since that win, he says there has been no response from Haney’s camp.
A fight with Haney may not be immediate, however, as the champion is currently competing in a higher weight class. Recently, Haney delivered a commanding victory over Brian Norman Jr. to secure a world title in a third division. He is now reportedly close to arranging a unification bout with WBA champion Rolando Romero, with a possible rematch against Ryan Garcia also being discussed for later in the year.
Meanwhile, Mason has his own commitments to handle. He is expected to defend his WBO lightweight title against top contender Joe Cordina, while early talks of a future clash with Raymond Muratalla have also begun circulating.
With multiple divisions and storylines intersecting, the Top Rank–DAZN partnership could play a key role in turning these potential matchups into reality.
