When asked whether Mahomes could one day overtake Brady as the greatest quarterback of all time, Okoye admitted that the question is extremely difficult to answer. He acknowledged that football has changed significantly over the years, making comparisons across different eras complicated. However, he ultimately leaned toward believing that Mahomes might have a chance to surpass Brady, largely because of how the modern game is played.
Okoye pointed out that Brady spent a significant portion of his career playing in a time when quarterbacks were subjected to far more physical punishment than they are today. Defensive players were able to deliver harder hits, and the rules protecting quarterbacks were not as strict as they are in the modern NFL. Despite those conditions, Brady still managed to sustain an incredibly long and successful career.
Brady’s achievements continue to represent the benchmark for quarterbacks in the league. Over the course of his career, he appeared in 335 games and accumulated 89,214 passing yards along with 649 touchdown passes. His résumé also includes seven Super Bowl victories, three league MVP awards, and 15 Pro Bowl selections. While those records remain remarkable, Okoye suggested they may not be impossible to reach in the future.

Mahomes is already compiling impressive numbers of his own. During the 2025 NFL season, he completed 315 of his 502 pass attempts for 3,587 yards. He threw 22 touchdown passes while also recording 11 interceptions across 14 games. Unfortunately, his season was cut short when he suffered an ACL injury that forced him to miss the final three games.
Okoye’s opinion carries weight because of his own achievements in the league. The former Chiefs running back played from 1987 through 1992 and was known for his powerful and physical running style.
