Chelsea FC are facing the possibility of losing one of their standout players after a crushing exit from the UEFA Champions League, where they were defeated 8-2 on aggregate by Paris Saint-Germain.
Heading into the second leg at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea already had a difficult task after suffering a heavy 5-2 defeat in the first leg at Parc des Princes. Their hopes of a comeback never materialized, as PSG delivered another dominant performance. Goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Bradley Barcola, and Senny Mayulu sealed a 3-0 victory in London, completing a comprehensive aggregate win.
The defeat has not only ended Chelsea’s European campaign but also sparked concerns about the future of key midfielder Enzo Fernandez. The Argentine has been one of the club’s most influential players during the 2025/26 season, contributing 12 goals and 6 assists. However, following the loss, he gave an uncertain response when asked about his future, stating that he is focused on the remaining eight games, the FA Cup, and the upcoming World Cup before making any decisions.
Despite being under contract with Chelsea until June 2032—and even reportedly considering a contract extension—Fernandez has attracted interest from several top clubs. His current deal and Chelsea’s initial investment of over £100 million mean that any potential transfer would require a significant fee.
Among the clubs linked with a move are European heavyweights Real Madrid and PSG. In addition, two clubs from the Saudi Pro League have reportedly made contact, although a move to Saudi Arabia is considered unlikely at this stage. Still, a lucrative offer could influence the midfielder’s decision.
Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior declined to comment in detail on Fernandez’s remarks after the match, emphasizing that his immediate focus remains on the team’s performance rather than speculation about player futures.
If Fernandez were to depart, it would represent a significant setback for Chelsea, given his importance to the squad and his role as vice-captain throughout the season.
