Akshay Bhatia Holds PGA Tour Responsible for Scottie Scheffler’s One Trait That Most Fans Dislike

Akshay Bhatia entered the final round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am with a chance to take control, but his early lead slipped away as Collin Morikawa surged ahead on Sunday.

Beyond the tournament, Bhatia spoke about how golf is presented to fans and how that perception differs from reality. In a conversation with Brad Dalke for Good Good Golf, he explained that the public often sees only the serious, competitive side of PGA Tour life, which contrasts sharply with the more relaxed and social atmosphere shown in creator-style or YouTube content. He noted that modern golf content highlights camaraderie, challenges, and enjoyment—elements that traditional broadcasts rarely emphasize.

Dalke agreed, saying that standard PGA Tour coverage focuses heavily on routines, concentration, and restraint. As a result, players with lively personalities can appear dull on television. He used Scottie Scheffler as an example, describing him as one of the most likable players on tour despite some viewers perceiving him as boring due to his calm demeanor. Dalke suggested that if Scheffler appeared more often in casual, behind-the-scenes content, fans would better see his humor and personality. Bhatia agreed, calling Scheffler “great.”

Bhatia believes this gap between competitive broadcasts and social media content explains why top players can seem overly serious compared to their real selves.

Earlier in the season, Bhatia also reflected on his career trajectory in comparison to Scheffler’s rise. After Scheffler’s dominant 2025 season—where he captured his 20th PGA Tour title before turning 30 and joined legends like Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods in achieving 20 wins and four major championships before age 30—Bhatia considered his own progress at a young age.

He pointed out that at 23, Scheffler was still developing on the Korn Ferry Tour, whereas he himself is already competing at the highest level. Now 24, Bhatia says he reminds himself that professional golf is a long journey and that he should appreciate what he has accomplished so far instead of measuring himself solely against others’ timelines.
