Kolinisau keeps focus on Perth as Coral Coast 7s looms

Fiji Men’s 7s Coach Osea Kolinisau Keeps Focus on Perth Sevens Amid Coral Coast Tournament

As the Coral Coast 7s kicks off this Thursday, Fiji Men’s 7s coach Osea Kolinisau has emphasized the bigger picture: preparing for the World Rugby Sevens Series, with the immediate target being the Perth Sevens next week.

While the Coral Coast 7s is a key event in Fiji’s rugby calendar, Kolinisau views it as a preparatory step. “I told the boys, although it’s Coral Coast week, it’s still preparation week for us because we want the bigger picture,” Kolinisau stated. “The bigger picture for us is the Perth Sevens and the series. That’s something we want to focus on.”

Strategic Use of the Coral Coast Tournament

Kolinisau plans to use the Coral Coast tournament to test combinations, assess individual players, and refine strategies ahead of Perth. This includes evaluating players participating under Mike Friday’s team, as they remain in contention for the final squad selection.

The Coral Coast event provides a critical opportunity for the team to build momentum while identifying areas of improvement. With the Perth Sevens on the horizon, maintaining focus on the global stage is essential for Fiji’s ongoing success in the series.

Optimism and Preparation

Kolinisau is confident that this dual focus will help the team stay sharp as they aim to maintain their strong form heading into the World Rugby Sevens Series. By balancing immediate challenges with long-term goals, the Fiji Men’s 7s team is gearing up to compete at the highest level on the international stage.

With the Coral Coast 7s serving as a stepping stone, Fiji’s rugby faithful can look forward to a team ready to shine in Perth and beyond.
