“Huge”: A Sky analyst compares the Tottenham Hotspur defender who was traded for £6 million to Virgil van Dijk

Although Cameron Carter-Vickers did not have much of an impact at Tottenham Hotspur, he has been so good at Celtic that Virgil van Dijk, the center-back for Liverpool, is now being compared to the defender.

After making an impression during a loan stint at Celtic Park in 2021–2022 as a central defender for the USA, Tottenham Hotspur sold Cameron Carter–Vickers to Celtic in the summer of 2022.

Success for Cameron Carter-Vickers after leaving Tottenham Hotspur

Despite coming through the Tottenham development academy, Carter-Vickers was unable to make a name for himself in the starting lineup.

The American defender, who was 26 years old, was frequently loaned out. He played on loan from Tottenham for a number of teams, including Swansea City, Luton Town, Bournemouth, and Sheffield United.

Carter-Vickers, who Celtic paid £6 million for (The Daily Mail), is a defender who has excelled at the Hoops.

Thus far, the defender has won the Scottish Premiership twice, the Scottish Cup once, and the Scottish League Cup twice with the Bhoys.

When he is available, the 26-year-old is among the first names on the Celtic roster, and former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has highlighted how significant it is for the Hoops that he is now fully fit again.

The Sky Sports analyst thinks so highly of Carter-Vickers that he has drawn comparisons between the defender and Virgil van Dijk, the center-back for Liverpool and the Netherlands.

Carter-Vickers, Cameron

One of the greatest and most elegant defenders in the world, Van Dijk has been essential to Liverpool’s victories in both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.

Regarding Carter-Vickers’ return to the Celtics lineup, Boyd stated on Sky Sports News at 1:10 p.m. on March 2, 2024: It’s enormous. You mentioned Van Dijk and how he lets Liverpool play; Carter-Vickers does the same thing by letting Celtic play at a higher level of the pitch. He covers ground so quickly because of his fast pace.

Following the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as head coach by Tottenham in the summer of 2023, Carter-Vickers was linked to a return to the North London team. Postecoglou was of Celtic descent.

Nothing came of it, and I don’t think Tottenham will see the defender play anytime soon at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It’s encouraging to see Carter-Vickers thriving at Celtic, a sizable team that frequently competes in Europe’s best club leagues.
