Carlos Alcaraz, known for keeping his personal life private, recently shared his thoughts on engagement after a busy offseason where several tennis players celebrated their own milestones. The Spanish star hinted at hopes for changes in 2025 but confirmed he is currently single.
Alcaraz participated in an exhibition match at Rod Laver Arena against Alex de Minaur on January 8. Although the 21-year-old was defeated by the Australian in a closely contested match, the event maintained a light-hearted tone, highlighted by playful exchanges during the post-match interview.
De Minaur, who got engaged to fellow tennis player Katie Boulter during the offseason, was one of several tennis stars marking such milestones. Others included Felix Auger-Aliassime, Casper Ruud, Alexei Popyrin, and Marton Fucsovics. During the interview, Andrea Petkovic joked with Alcaraz about his single status, to which he responded with humor:
“Who knows this year? [Laughing] No, no, no engagement so far. Single, so far. I joked with some close people that during the break, 3 or 4 players got engaged. I thought it was my turn, but not yet.”
When prompted to congratulate De Minaur, Alcaraz playfully teased him, saying, “I already told him congratulations. I don’t know if you’re sure about it! [Laughing].” However, he followed up with kind words, noting that although he didn’t know Katie Boulter well, she seemed like a wonderful person, wishing the couple a happy future together.
Alcaraz, a four-time Grand Slam champion, is preparing for the Australian Open with hopes of completing his Career Grand Slam. Despite not playing in preparatory tournaments, he appeared in good form during his 7-5, 4-6, [10-5] exhibition match loss to De Minaur.
