Tottenham is reportedly “very interested” in landing the 6′ 4in star; a £15 million deal might be reached

According to German publication Sport Bild, Tottenham Hotspur is supposedly “very interested” in signing Jonathan Tah, a star for Bayer Leverkusen, this summer.

With four goals and seven clean sheets in 19 Bundesliga games this season, the 28-year-old has been having a spectacular season.

Under Xavi Alonso’s direction, Die Werkself have been pursuing a championship this season, and Tah has been an important member of the Spaniard’s starting lineup.

Spurs have reportedly expressed interest in signing the German after being pleased by his recent impressive performances.

Tottenham is reportedly aiming to buy a new defender this summer and is expressing “great interest” in Tah, according to Sport Witness, which is citing and translating the print version of Sport Bild.

The defender may depart Bayer Leverkusen during the off-season if he doesn’t sign a new contract with the German team, according to the report, which also states that he is about to enter the final year of his present contract.

Hey, Tottenham

Additionally, according to Bild, Tah’s current deal contains a £15 million release clause that can be activated during this summer transfer window. Spurs will therefore be able to get his services for a low price.

The 28-year-old, who stands 6 feet 4 inches tall, is athletic, skilled in the air, at ease playing out of the back, effective on defense, and capable of contributing a few key goals.

The German is a gifted athlete who has shown flashes of his abilities in the Bundesliga in recent years. Therefore, if he were to transfer to the recently restored White Hart Lane this summer, the North Londoners would be hopeful that he could repeat the same performance in the Premier League.

To strengthen their defense, Tottenham did, however, just recruit Radu Dragusin from Genoa. Thus, their present choices for right-footed center backs are Cristian Romero and the Romanian.

But Ange Postecoglou prefers to use a left-footed defender on the left side of defense, and Micky van de Ven is the only other left-footed center-back in his lineup. Therefore, rather than signing Tah, the Lilywhites would be better suited purchasing a new left-footed defender.

It would be intriguing to see, though, if Tottenham decides to take serious steps this summer to strengthen their defense by acquiring the Leverkusen star.
