Pep Guardiola recently addressed his career amid Manchester City’s challenging period this season, which sees them fourth in the Premier League table and eight points behind Liverpool after a poor run of form. Despite these difficulties and the pending Premier League charges, Guardiola has committed his future to the club by signing a new two-year contract, making him scheduled to complete a decade of service with City, his longest tenure at any club after Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
At 54, Guardiola has been linked with national team jobs, including England and Brazil, but he has firmly stated that he will not manage another club, no matter the country, due to a lack of energy to start anew. Speaking to the Desmontadito YouTube channel, Guardiola emphasized, “At some point I will feel like it’s enough and at that moment I will stop for sure. I’m not going to join another team, I’m not going to leave to go to another country [for a club]. I won’t have the energy.”
Guardiola acknowledged that international management could be appealing due to its less demanding daily schedule, but he prefers to stay at Manchester City for now, despite the challenges. He explained, “It’s not every day [training], every three days [playing]. I think I would have to stop [from the daily cycle]. To rest, to see what we have done, what we can do better, because day-to-day we don’t have much time to rest. It’s continuous and to rest I think would be good for me. But right now, no, right now I’m here.”
City recently drew 2-2 against Crystal Palace and have a tough fixture ahead against Juventus in the Champions League. They are currently 20th out of 35 in the Champions League standings with eight points from five games, and also face a Manchester derby against United on Sunday at the Etihad Stadium.
