West Ham striker Antonio ‘stable’ after car crash

West Ham United has confirmed that striker Michail Antonio is in stable condition and is “conscious and communicating” following a car accident.

In a statement released on Saturday evening, the club announced that Antonio is receiving close medical supervision at a central London hospital. The club emphasized the importance of respecting the privacy of Antonio and his family during this challenging time. They added that no further comments would be made that evening but promised to provide updates in due course.

The Essex County Fire and Rescue Service responded to the incident, which occurred in Epping on Saturday afternoon. According to their report, firefighters were called to the scene at 1:02 PM after a single-vehicle collision. They found a man trapped inside the car and managed to free him by 1:45 PM. The individual was then handed over to the Ambulance Service for further care.

Essex Police confirmed they are investigating the serious crash, which involved a Ferrari, and are appealing to the public for witnesses and dashcam footage to aid their inquiry.

Earlier in the day, West Ham expressed their “thoughts and prayers” for Antonio, his family, and his friends.

Antonio, a 34-year-old Jamaica international, joined West Ham from Nottingham Forest in 2015. Since then, he has scored 68 goals in 268 Premier League appearances for the club.

West Ham’s next Premier League fixture is against Wolverhampton Wanderers, scheduled for Monday at 20:00 GMT.
