Massimiliano Allegri, the former Juventus manager renowned for his Serie A successes, is reportedly in contention to replace Julen Lopetegui at West Ham United amid the latter’s precarious position at the club. Allegri, who previously guided Juventus to five consecutive league titles between 2014 and 2019 and concluded his tenure with a Coppa Italia victory in 2025, has emerged as a top candidate due to his impressive track record and availability.
West Ham’s leadership is said to be seriously considering a managerial change after Lopetegui’s disappointing start to the season. Despite some notable results, including a 5-2 win against Arsenal and a 2-1 victory over Manchester United, the team has also suffered significant defeats, such as a 3-1 loss to Leicester City and a heavy 4-1 defeat against Tottenham. These inconsistencies have raised questions about Lopetegui’s ability to lead the team forward. The club recently held a crisis meeting to discuss his future, with reports indicating that technical director Tim Steidten is advocating for a managerial change.
In addition to Allegri, other potential replacements being considered include Graham Potter, Edin Terzić, and Sergio Conceição. Steidten has reportedly already initiated discussions with Terzić. Lopetegui, meanwhile, remains focused on turning the team’s fortunes around, stating after the Leicester defeat that he and the squad are determined to improve and focus on their next challenges.
Allegri, known for his tactical expertise and history of success, is reportedly open to taking on the West Ham role but has made specific financial demands. According to reports, he is seeking a contract worth £127,000 per week, amounting to an annual salary of £6.6 million. If granted, this would place him as the fourth-highest-paid manager in the Premier League, ahead of notable names like Ruben Amorim, Arne Slot, and Enzo Maresca.
While Newcastle United is also reportedly interested in Allegri, it remains to be seen if West Ham is willing to meet his demands. With pressure mounting on Lopetegui, the club faces a critical decision regarding its managerial direction.
