Galatasaray have provided an update on Noa Lang after he suffered a painful injury during their UEFA Champions League clash against Liverpool FC.
The Turkish side arrived at Anfield holding a narrow 1-0 advantage from the first leg in Istanbul. However, Liverpool delivered a dominant performance in the return fixture, securing a 4-0 victory thanks to goals from Dominik Szoboszlai, Hugo Ekitike, Ryan Gravenberch, and Mohamed Salah.
Late in the match, Lang was involved in a serious incident when he collided with an advertising board, leaving him in visible pain. The injury was later confirmed to be a severe cut to his right thumb. Medical staff administered oxygen on the pitch before he was stretchered off and taken directly to hospital.
After the game, Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk confirmed the immediate hospital transfer. The club later announced that Lang will require surgery, which is expected to take place in Liverpool with the club’s medical team present.
Lang had only entered the match at halftime, coming on alongside Leroy Sane. The pair replaced Sacha Boey and Victor Osimhen, the latter of whom was also dealing with an injury.
Osimhen had taken a knock to his arm during the first half but managed to continue playing until the break. However, he was substituted at halftime due to concerns about a possible fracture. Subsequent medical examinations confirmed that he had indeed suffered a fracture in his right forearm, which has since been placed in a cast. A final decision on whether he will need surgery is expected after further evaluation.
With the result, Liverpool advance to the quarter-finals, where they are set to face reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain.
