One play “annihilated” the season for the Leeds United man; he is the least valuable player at Beren Cross

Leeds United is currently taking a break for international fixtures, marking the second of the season. Several players, including Joe Rodon, who struggled in Wales’ 2-2 draw against Iceland, have left for national duties. Meanwhile, Leeds manager Daniel Farke is eager to spend time on the training ground with his squad, as they sit three points behind Sunderland, who are top of the table.

In their last match at the Stadium of Light, Leeds were on course for a significant away win, but a last-minute mistake by goalkeeper Illan Meslier allowed Sunderland to equalize. Meslier mishandled a simple catch, letting the ball slip into the net, which resulted in a devastating blow to Leeds’ hopes of securing all three points. The error has significantly impacted Meslier’s average rating for the season, especially as he has struggled to stand out due to Leeds’ attacking dominance.

Meslier, who has been with Leeds since 2019, has 184 appearances and 54 clean sheets for the club. Despite some solid performances, including five clean sheets in nine league matches this season, his error against Sunderland has raised concerns about his form. Some criticism also came after the game when Meslier was seen laughing with Sunderland’s manager, who he knows from his time at Lorient.

With Meslier’s recent dip in form, there is speculation that Karl Darlow could be considered for a starting role. Darlow is an experienced goalkeeper at the Championship level and could be given a chance if Meslier continues to falter or loses confidence.
