“I will organize a dog fight next year with Roscoe and Leo”: Ferrari boss’ unserious banter with Charles Leclerc

Ferrari’s team principal humorously commented on organizing a dog fight between the pets of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc next year. This comes after Hamilton’s announcement that he will be leaving Mercedes at the end of 2024 to join Ferrari in 2025, partnering with Leclerc. After 12 years with Mercedes, the seven-time world champion will make his highly anticipated move to Maranello, where both he and Leclerc have expressed excitement about being teammates.

At a recent event, Ferrari’s principal joked that in addition to on-track competition, he would arrange a playful showdown between Hamilton’s dog, Roscoe, and Leclerc’s dog, Leo. Earlier in the season, Leclerc had mentioned his hope that the two dogs could become friends, as Leo doesn’t have many canine companions. He shared that he had considered texting Hamilton to arrange a meeting for their pets, hoping to improve Leo’s social life.

Leclerc also spoke positively about Hamilton joining Ferrari, noting how valuable the experience of racing alongside the most successful driver in F1 history would be. In a podcast interview, he acknowledged the challenge and motivation of competing against someone of Hamilton’s caliber. Leclerc pointed out that Hamilton’s presence would serve as a benchmark and bring additional motivation to the entire team. He highlighted how Hamilton’s extensive experience with Mercedes and his different working methods would be beneficial to Ferrari.

Hamilton and Leclerc have already had memorable on-track battles, such as at Monza in 2019 and Silverstone in 2022, where they fought hard for victories and podium finishes.
