Not all of us terrified”- Simone Biles suffers a fall while attempting a back full during Gold Over America Tour practice

Simone Biles recently experienced a fall while attempting a challenging move during a training session for the Gold Over America Tour. This year marks the second edition of the event, which Biles launched in 2021 to celebrate female Olympians following the Tokyo Olympics. The 2024 edition, which started on September 16, features both male and female gymnasts. Notable male participants include Paul Juda, Fred Richard, Brody Malone, Shane Wiskus, and Yul Moldauer, alongside female stars such as Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, Hezly Rivera, Jade Carey, and Joscelyn Roberson.

The tour’s most recent stop was in Boston on October 6-7. During this time, Biles shared an update via Instagram, where she posted a video of herself attempting a back full. However, she was unable to execute a perfect landing and fell at the end. In her story, she wrote: “Back to the basics. Not all of us terrified of a back full though…”

In another video of a second attempt, Biles fell once more but showed progress. She captioned this attempt: “Progress. Made our way to a 2½.”

Biles also addressed her fall during the balance beam event at the Paris Olympics in a video posted on TikTok. In the video, filmed while preparing for the uneven bars event (for which she was a reserve), Biles discussed her physical health, mentioning that her body was beginning to shut down. She said, “I am really tired. I feel like my body is slowly starting to shut down, like, it’s ready to be done.”

Her fall from the balance beam was not solely due to her physical state. Biles also pointed out that the cheering from the audience distracted her, especially because there was no background music to help her maintain focus. She explained, “You’re trying to stay in your zone, and then people start cheering, and then the shushing gets louder… We’ve asked several times if we can have some music, or some background noise, so I’m not really sure what happened there. But, yeah, not our favorite. None of us liked it.”

Despite these challenges, Biles still had a memorable showing at the Paris Olympics, adding four more medals to her collection and bringing her total Olympic medal count to 11.
