After a win at the 2024 China Open, Sabalenka was asked if the support from the Chinese crowd influenced her success. In response, she shared that while she cherishes the memories from her past victories in the country, she couldn’t recall exactly how many titles she had won there. Following her second Grand Slam win of the year, Sabalenka entered the China Open as the top seed, especially after Iga Świątek’s withdrawal. In her first-round match, she defeated Thailand’s Mananchaya Sawangkaew 6-4, 6-1. This victory marked Sabalenka’s 18th win in 21 WTA 1000 matches in China, the highest of any player since the format was introduced in 2009. Despite her dominance, Sabalenka expressed uncertainty about her own record in China, but appreciated the enthusiastic support from fans, saying it motivates her to perform at her best.

 

Sabalenka reflected on her first-round match, acknowledging a struggle to find her rhythm early on but noting that her performance improved significantly in the second set.
