‘Not a Decision for Me to Make’- Serena Williams’ Ex-Coach Imagines Mentoring Coco Gauff as She Makes Honest Revelation About Her Work Ethic

Serena Williams’ former coach, Rennae Stubbs, expressed concern over Coco Gauff’s confidence following her unexpected exit from the 2024 US Open.

Gauff’s performance, marked by 19 double faults during her fourth-round match against Emma Navarro, highlighted technical issues that Stubbs addressed during an interview with ESPN.

Stubbs pointed out problems with Gauff’s technique under pressure, particularly her low elbow position and grip. While Stubbs acknowledged these flaws, she clarified that her critique was not aimed at Gauff’s former coach, Brad Gilbert, but rather was part of her job as an analyst.

After Gauff parted ways with Gilbert following an inconsistent season, fans have speculated about her next coach. Stubbs has since expressed her willingness to coach Gauff if the opportunity arose, praising Gauff’s character and potential. Despite rumors involving other high-profile names, including Nick Kyrgios and Naomi Osaka’s former coach, Sascha Bajin, no official replacement has been confirmed.

Tennis veteran Andy Roddick also weighed in, suggesting that Gauff might not be in a hurry to find a new coach given her comfort with current coach Jean-Christophe Faurel, who has been part of her team since 2019. Gauff’s coaching situation remains uncertain as fans eagerly await her next move.
