Sha’Carri Richardson receives warm welcome from students as she returns to alma mater after Paris Olympics exploits

After her impressive performances at the 2024 Paris Olympics and Diamond League, Sha’Carri Richardson paid a visit to her alma mater, David W. Carter High School, on September 21, 2024. At the Paris Olympics, Richardson earned a silver medal in the 100m, clocking an impressive time of 10.87 seconds, just behind Julien Alfred’s 10.72 seconds. This achievement marked a significant milestone in her career, especially after missing the Tokyo Olympics due to a suspension following the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials for the use of banned substances.

Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Richardson graduated from David W. Carter High School, and during her recent visit, she was greeted with excitement by the students. They posed for pictures with her in front of a banner that read, “Sha’Carri Richardson, The Path to Gold.”

Richardson also attended a football game between Carter High School and Wilmer-Hutchins, where she received a special honor: the track at John Kincaide Stadium was officially named after her. The newly unveiled signage at the “Sha’Carri Richardson Track” highlighted her athletic accomplishments and featured one of her inspirational quotes: “I’m doing it for everyone who looks like me.”

In an interview, Richardson expressed her deep gratitude for the recognition and support from her community. She emphasized her pride in her Dallas roots, stating, “To have a track named after me is a huge honor, but it also means I have a responsibility to Dallas. I will never ever let people forget where I came from, and that’s Dallas.”

In addition to her silver in the 100m, Richardson also claimed a gold medal at the Paris Olympics in the women’s 4x100m relay, running the anchor leg for Team USA.
