Simone Biles is not the kind of athlete to quietly fade away. Even after making history at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where she claimed three gold medals and one silver, there’s still ongoing speculation: could she make a comeback at the LA 2028 Olympics? As one of the most decorated and celebrated gymnasts of all time, her potential return remains a topic of discussion. However, rather than rushing back into training, Biles is currently taking time to enjoy something she hasn’t had in years—rest and quality time with her loved ones.
At 28, Biles has earned the right to step back and recover, both physically and mentally. The demands of elite-level gymnastics have defined much of her life. Speaking to Olympics.com after receiving the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year award, Biles shared that she is focused on healing, explaining how the Olympics take a significant toll on the body. The physical strain she’s endured over the years has played a major role in her decision to take a break.
During her recovery period, Biles is enjoying time with her family and friends, especially her husband, Jonathan Owens, a player for the Chicago Bears. She admitted that throughout her career, she’s missed out on these personal moments because of her sacrifices for the sport.
Though she is enjoying this well-deserved break, the thought of competing in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles still lingers. The fact that the Games will be held in the U.S. makes them particularly appealing to her. “It’s in LA, it’s back in the States, which is so exciting,” Biles noted. However, she’s not certain whether she’ll be competing again. What she is sure of, though, is that she’ll be present at the Olympics in some way—either as a competitor or a spectator.
Biles has emphasized that preparing for another Olympic appearance would require a deep, long-term commitment. She knows from experience how much mental and physical dedication is necessary over a four-year period. For now, she’s dedicating her time to what matters most—her personal life and the people she loves.
Following the intense buildup to Paris 2024 and their wedding in 2023, Biles and Owens didn’t get much time together. But once the Olympics were over, they finally embarked on their long-awaited honeymoon, beginning with a safari in South Africa. Biles recalled a hilarious and nerve-racking moment when she encountered a lion, joking that it almost made her lose control out of fear. Their travels didn’t stop there—they also visited Switzerland, where they enjoyed a luxurious experience at the Audemars Piguet watch museum.
Now that the stress of Olympic competition has eased, the couple has been able to enjoy meaningful and peaceful moments together. Whether cheering each other on at sporting events or taking memorable vacations, their relationship remains strong and full of joy. In August 2024, Biles visited Chicago to support Owens at a Bears game, proudly wearing a custom varsity jacket honoring his achievements. Owens also flew to Paris to witness Biles’ Olympic victories.
Whether at high-energy events or during quiet getaways, Biles and Owens continue to support one another and treasure the time they now have together. For Biles, this time away from gymnastics is not just a break—it’s a chance to embrace the personal life she’s worked so hard to build.
