Phil Mickelson Mocked by Analyst Over Elusive U.S. Open Title

Despite being a six-time Major winner, LIV Golf star Phil Mickelson has never captured the elusive U.S. Open title. Recently, prominent golf analyst Brandel Chamblee took a jab at Mickelson on X (formerly Twitter), claiming he was never even close to completing the career Grand Slam.

Responding to a fan who questioned Mickelson’s omission from a list of near-miss Grand Slam golfers, Chamblee wrote:

“Closest he came at the US Open after winning The Open in 2013 was 28th place… so he didn’t come remotely close.”

However, records show that Mickelson actually finished T2 at the 2013 U.S. Open at Merion Golf Club — the same year he won The Open Championship. He later added a second PGA Championship title in 2021 and finished T2 at the 2023 Masters, marking one of his best recent performances.

Unfortunately, Mickelson missed the cut at the 2025 Masters, joining four other LIV Golf players who failed to advance past the second round.

A Closer Look at Phil Mickelson’s 2025 Season So Far

While he hasn’t yet claimed victory on the LIV Golf circuit in 2025, Mickelson has shown flashes of strong form, keeping fans optimistic.

Here are his tournament results this season:

  • LIV Golf Adelaide (Feb 14-16)
    The Grange Golf Club
    Finish: T23 | Score: 72-74-68 (−2)
  • LIV Golf Hong Kong (Mar 7-9)
    Hong Kong Golf Club
    Finish: 3rd | Score: 67-65-64 (−14)
  • LIV Golf Singapore (Mar 14-16)
    Sentosa Golf Club
    Finish: T19 | Score: 69-68-72 (−4)
  • LIV Golf Miami (Apr 4-6)

    Finish: 6th | Score: 69-73-73 (−1)
  • Masters Tournament (Apr 10-13)

    Finish: Missed Cut | Score: 75-74 (+5)

Despite recent criticism and a shaky showing at Augusta, Mickelson’s performances this season suggest he’s still got fight left in him — and perhaps that elusive LIV Golf win is just around the corner.
