Jon Rahm faces rough start at the 2025 Masters but stays optimistic
Jon Rahm had a challenging opening round at the 2025 Masters, shooting a 3-over-par 75 on Thursday, April 10. Despite the disappointing score, the Spanish golfer, who previously won the green jacket, expressed confidence in his ability to bounce back as the tournament continues.
In his post-round press conference, Rahm remained positive about his chances, especially going into Friday’s second round. He acknowledged Augusta National’s difficulty, pointing out that the course is only going to get tougher. However, he believes that a solid start and a round in the 60s could put him right back in contention for the weekend.
Rahm began his round on the first hole and struggled early, bogeying the second hole before recovering slightly with a birdie on the third. However, the troubles continued with bogeys on the fourth and seventh holes. The back nine wasn’t much better, as he bogeyed the 10th and 11th holes before adding a birdie on the 13th, finishing with a 3-over score.
While Rahm struggled, it was Justin Rose who led the field after the first round with a 7-under 65. LIV Golf players Tyrrell Hatton and Bryson DeChambeau also made strong starts, each carding 3-under 69s to tie for fifth.
Rahm’s LIV Golf season in 2025
Although his performance at the Masters opening round was below expectations, Rahm has had a solid season on the LIV Golf circuit so far in 2025. He began the year with a tie for second in Riyadh, delivering consistent rounds of 5-under each day to finish at 15-under overall.
At the LIV Golf Adelaide event, Rahm posted rounds of 2-under, 3-under, and 2-under to finish in sixth place. He followed that with a T6 finish in Hong Kong, T5 in Singapore, and T9 in Miami, showing consistent top-10 form throughout the season.
Rahm made his Masters debut in 2017, finishing T27. In the years that followed, he became a regular contender, with finishes of solo eighth in 2018, T9 in 2019, T7 in 2020, and T5 in 2021. Across eight appearances at Augusta, he has never missed a cut, underlining his ability to navigate the challenges of one of golf’s mosticonic venues.
