Ridiculous” – Ludvig Aberg reacts to PGA Tour rival’s flawless Masters start

Ludvig Aberg reacts to Justin Rose’s impressive opening round at the 2025 Masters

Ludvig Aberg, last year’s runner-up at the Masters, praised Justin Rose for his exceptional performance in the first round of the 2025 tournament at Augusta National. Rose surged to the top of the leaderboard with a stellar 7-under-par 65 on Thursday, April 10, showcasing vintage form at the first major of the year.

Speaking during his post-round press conference, Aberg recalled being amazed when he learned that Rose had reached 8-under during the round. Although he didn’t witness Rose’s shots or putts, he acknowledged how impressive that kind of performance was, especially at Augusta. Aberg said they were walking down a hole—he couldn’t remember which—when he heard Rose had hit 8-under, calling it “actually ridiculous.”

Rose tallied eight birdies over the round, climbing to 8-under before making a bogey on the 18th hole, finishing with a 7-under score to take the solo lead after 18 holes.

Aberg, meanwhile, also enjoyed a strong start. He posted a 4-under 68, placing him just three shots behind Rose and in a tie for second alongside Scottie Scheffler and Corey Conners. He began on the first tee and made a birdie on the third hole before dropping a shot on the fourth. His back nine was more productive, where he picked up four additional birdies to close out his round.

Reflecting on the course conditions, Aberg described Augusta National as “sneaky hard.” He explained that although there wasn’t much wind, it swirled in ways that made shot selection challenging. Some greens became crusty as the day wore on, requiring precise placement on approach shots—especially when the wind switched direction unexpectedly.

The second round of the Masters is scheduled for Friday, April 11. Play begins at 7:40 a.m. ET, with the trio of Cam Davis, Austin Eckroat, and Rafael Campos taking the first tee shots. They’ll be followed by Angel Cabrera, Laurie Canter, and Adam Schenk at 7:51 a.m. ET.

Ludvig Aberg will start his second round at 9:58 a.m. ET, paired with Rory McIlroy and Akshay Bhatia.
