Emma Raducanu’s next tournaments may have been confirmed as clay-court plan emerges

Emma Raducanu has decided to take a short break from tennis after a strong performance at the Miami Open, where she made it to the quarter-finals. This decision follows her withdrawal from the upcoming Billie Jean King Cup ties and the WTA 250 event in Rouen, France, as she looks to recharge before her clay-court season. Although her return to action seemed uncertain, she remains on the entry list for the Madrid Open starting April 22, and the Italian Open in Rome beginning May 6.

Raducanu’s 2024 clay-court season is expected to be a pivotal one, with an opportunity to climb the WTA rankings. Despite her relative inexperience on clay, her performances for Great Britain in the Billie Jean King Cup last year showed promise, which could translate into success this year if she can adjust to the surface.

Tim Henman, former British No. 1, has supported Raducanu’s decision to play more frequently in 2025, noting that consistent match play could lead to improved results, especially if she stays healthy. Henman emphasized the importance of physical resilience, which Raducanu has been focusing on, having previously struggled with injury.

It remains to be seen if Raducanu will play in Madrid and Rome, but the clay-court season presents a significant opportunity for her to build on her momentum and possibly make a breakthrough on this surface.
