Max Muncy reveals Dodgers’ bat testing secrets

The Los Angeles Dodgers are showing why they are considered one of the favorites to win the 2025 World Series, leading Major League Baseball with 26 home runs through their first 13 games. A major contributor has been utilityman Tommy Edman, who has hit 5 home runs in this span.

One of the most talked-about aspects of the early season has been the use of torpedo bats. After the New York Yankees’ power surge with these bats, the Dodgers, who work with the company that produces them, were equally surprised by the sudden popularity of the torpedo bat. Max Muncy, a veteran of the Dodgers, shared some behind-the-scenes insight on how the team selects their bats, emphasizing the detailed fittings and technology used, including BPI (bat performance index) to find the optimal bat for each player.

While the torpedo bats have gained attention from players like Jazz Chisholm Jr., Anthony Volpe, and Francisco Lindor, Muncy has yet to use one. However, the Dodgers’ depth has been impressive this season, with players like Kike Hernandez, Tommy Edman, and Michael Conforto stepping up and contributing a combined 11 home runs so far. With contributions from all areas, the Dodgers don’t necessarily need to rely on the torpedo bats to succeed this season.

The team’s blend of power, depth, and careful preparation seems to be setting them up for another strong season. What are your thoughts on the Dodgers’ chances this year, especially with their impressive lineup?
