Anthony Joshua Won’t Follow Magic Johnson’s Billionaire Path as Boxing Star Wrestles With Retirement

When most boxers reach the peak of their careers, they usually face two choices—retire with their achievements or continue chasing more glory. For Anthony Joshua, the decision is clear: he’s not done yet. Even after more than ten years in the professional ring, he’s still training, fighting, and showing no signs of stepping away. His fans aren’t ready to let him go either.

Recently, Joshua was seen jogging through the bustling streets of Lagos, Nigeria. What began as a simple run quickly turned into a crowd-pulling event. Locals gathered in large numbers, cheering him on, capturing videos, and even running alongside him. It was a powerful show of support that visibly touched the former heavyweight champion. Joshua has always valued his connection with people, but this experience felt even more special.

In his social media post, he reflected on his ongoing passion for boxing and compared himself to legendary athletes like Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, LeBron James, Michael Jordan, and Kobe Bryant. Joshua acknowledged his financial success—worth around $80 million and once earning $47 million in a single year—but made it clear that money isn’t why he continues. His post included a heartfelt line: “You know I got dough, I could leave the league. But if I leave… Are the fans still gonna love me, man?” That sentiment shows he’s not chasing paychecks—he’s chasing a lasting legacy.

Despite a tough loss to Daniel Dubois last year at Wembley and missing out on the IBF title, Joshua hasn’t slowed down. He’s stayed active, training, and connecting with his roots. Unlike some retired athletes who transition to business roles, Joshua still feels the fire of competition. He wants to keep stepping into the ring and giving fans something to cheer for.

Just as it seemed he might be considering his next steps, a new challenge emerged. An old rival, Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller, publicly called him out again—stirring memories of a fight that never happened. Joshua might have considered slowing down, but now, it’s clear he’s got unfinished business.

Miller, who had a fight with AJ canceled in 2019 after failing drug tests, is convinced Joshua is avoiding him. Following a draw with Andy Ruiz last year, Miller is preparing for his next bout against Fabio Wardley on June 7. But even while focused on Wardley, he hasn’t let go of his grudge against Joshua.

In a recent interview, Miller claimed that Joshua’s team is actively avoiding a matchup. He quoted them as saying Joshua should “stay away from me at all cost.” He didn’t hold back, accusing AJ of being afraid and adding, “If he really wants to fight, he’ll make a fight happen.” He capped it off with a harsh jab, calling Joshua a coward who avoids real competition.

Now, the question stands: Is Anthony Joshua truly driven by the desire to build his legacy? Or is he dodging a dangerous opponent from his past? Either way, the story isn’t over—and fans will be watching closely to see if these two finally settle thescore in the ring.
