The NFL offseason is moving quickly, and as of Monday, teams have already entered the third week of free agency. The Philadelphia Eagles have been actively addressing roster needs on both sides of the ball, signing multiple free agents, including pass rusher Azeez Ojulari and running back A.J. Dillon.
While some of these acquisitions fill critical gaps, others signal the likely departure of veteran players. One such player who may be nearing the end of his time in Philadelphia is tight end Dallas Goedert, whose future with the team appears uncertain following recent roster moves.
Goedert’s Future in Doubt After TE Signings
Goedert, a long-time fan favorite, has been the subject of trade rumors as he enters the final season of his contract, which no longer carries any guaranteed money. A post-June 1 trade could free up more than $6.7 million in salary cap space, a move that would allow the Eagles to reallocate funds to strengthen other areas of the roster in pursuit of another Super Bowl run.
Even though many fans hope to see Goedert remain with the team, recent signings indicate that the Eagles are preparing for the possibility of moving on. Philadelphia recently added veteran tight ends Harrison Bryant and Kylen Granson on one-year deals, a move that raises further questions about Goedert’s role.
If the front office was fully committed to keeping Goedert, it seems unlikely they would have prioritized adding multiple players at his position, especially given the existing depth with Grant Calcaterra, Nick Muse, E.J. Jenkins, and Cameron Latu all already under contract. Instead, these moves suggest the team is bracing for a potential transition.
Bryant and Granson Bring Depth and Experience
Bryant, a 26-year-old former fourth-round pick, has spent time with the Cleveland Browns and Las Vegas Raiders. Over 78 career games, he has made 33 starts, recording 98 receptions for 877 yards and 10 touchdowns. While his pass-blocking grade dipped in 2024 (47.8 per Pro Football Focus), he previously posted strong grades of 76.8 and 80.2 in the two prior seasons.
Granson, entering his fifth season, was drafted in 2021 by the Indianapolis Colts. Although he has just one career touchdown, he has accumulated 958 receiving yards on 86 catches, averaging 11.1 yards per reception. His pass-blocking ability also improved in 2024, earning a career-best 78.3 PFF grade.
Even if a Goedert trade is not imminent, these additions suggest the Eagles are preparing for life without him. The team could further reinforce the position in the upcoming draft, especially given that Latu, at 25, is the youngest tight end currently on the roster.
Goedert’s Legacy in Philadelphia
If this offseason marks the end of Goedert’s tenure, he will leave behind a lasting impact on the Eagles organization. Since being drafted in the second round in 2018, he has been a key contributor, amassing 4,085 receiving yards and 24 touchdowns on 349 receptions over seven seasons. His career highlight came just last month when he played a role in the Eagles’ Super Bowl victory.
Regardless of what happens next, the Eagles remain in a strong position. Entering the third week of free agency, they are considered one of the top Super Bowl 60 contenders, with sportsbooks listing them among the favorites to make another championship run.
