Dak Prescott Bids Farewell to Cooper Rush: What’s Next for the Cowboys?
After spending nearly his entire career with the Dallas Cowboys, backup quarterback Cooper Rush is moving on. Rush has signed a two-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens, leaving Dak Prescott without his longtime support system. Prescott, who has shared a strong bond with Rush since 2017, took to Instagram to post a heartfelt farewell:

It’s a significant moment for both players. While Rush gets a fresh start in Baltimore, the Cowboys now face questions about their quarterback depth behind Prescott.
Cooper Rush: The Underrated Backup
Despite being a backup for most of his career, Rush proved his worth in 2022, stepping in for an injured Prescott and leading the Cowboys to a 4-1 record. His poise under pressure and familiarity with Dallas’ system made him a trusted presence in the QB room.

In 2024, Rush appeared in 12 games, starting eight and throwing for 1,844 yards, 12 touchdowns, and five interceptions. While his 4-4 record as a starter wasn’t spectacular, his leadership and stability were invaluable.
Now, Baltimore is betting on him as Lamar Jackson’s primary backup. Given Jackson’s aggressive play style and injury history, Rush’s presence could prove crucial for the Ravens.
What Does This Mean for the Cowboys?
With Rush gone, Dallas is left with major questions at backup QB. Trey Lance, whom they traded for last season, is now a free agent. That leaves Will Grier as the only remaining backup—hardly an ideal scenario.
With the 2025 NFL Draft approaching, the Cowboys hold the No. 12, No. 44, and No. 76 picks. Will they use one to secure a young QB, or will they sign a veteran to replace Rush?
Dak Prescott’s Future Still Uncertain
Adding another layer to the drama, Prescott’s contract situation remains unresolved. With one year left on his deal, talks between Prescott and owner Jerry Jones have yet to result in an extension. If Dallas isn’t careful, they could find themselves without both their starting and backup QBs by next season.
A Tough Goodbye, But a New Beginning
Prescott and Rush shared seven seasons together, making this farewell bittersweet. But in the ever-changing NFL, change is inevitable. Now, the Cowboys must figure out their QB depth chart—and fast.
