The Seattle Seahawks are making significant changes to their offensive lineup this offseason with the aim of achieving immediate success. Geno Smith has been traded to the Las Vegas Raiders, and Sam Darnold has signed a three-year, $100 million contract to become the new quarterback. DK Metcalf has moved to the Pittsburgh Steelers, while Jaxon Smith-Njigba has risen to the top of the wide receiver depth chart alongside Cooper Kupp. However, the team’s receiving corps may not be fully set just yet.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Seahawks are set to meet with former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup. Gallup, who recently came out of retirement after stepping away from football last year, has already met with the Washington Commanders. Over the course of 86 games, Gallup has recorded 266 catches for 3,744 yards and 21 touchdowns, making him a potential valuable addition to Seattle’s offense under new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak.
Gallup, a former All-American at Colorado State, was a reliable secondary receiver for the Cowboys for several years but struggled after tearing his ACL in January 2022. Since then, he has struggled to return to his earlier form as a deep-threat receiver, slowly fading into the background.
After being released by Dallas, Gallup briefly joined the Raiders before announcing his retirement just before the start of training camp. However, the 6-foot-1 receiver is now ready to return to the field, hoping that the eight months away from the game have allowed him to regain his previous explosiveness. Seattle seems to believe that he’s worth taking a closer look at.
If Gallup does sign with the Seahawks, his role in the offense might be limited. With Jaxon Smith-Njigba likely to remain the team’s primary receiver, Cooper Kupp bringing his experience as a proven veteran, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling able to contribute as a deep threat, Gallup may have to settle for a more occasional role. Nevertheless, adding another capable wide receiver for Sam Darnold could be beneficial as the team looks to build an offense capable of competing at a high level. Gallup’s potential comeback could take an intriguing turn in the near future.
