Brad Marchand Says Goodbye To Bruins Fans: ‘My Family Is Your Family’
Brad Marchand has officially moved on to a new chapter in his hockey career but took the time to express his gratitude to Boston Bruins fans before saying goodbye. The Bruins traded their long-time captain and 16-season veteran to the Florida Panthers just before Friday’s NHL trade deadline, marking the end of an iconic tenure with the franchise.
Marchand, who became a fan favorite for both his on-ice performance and deep connection with the community, shared a heartfelt farewell message in the Monday edition of The Boston Globe. In his letter, he reflected on his journey from a young Canadian player pursuing his dream of competing in the NHL to a seasoned veteran who helped the team win the Stanley Cup. He expressed his appreciation for the city of Boston, thanking fans for embracing him from the very beginning and making him feel like part of their family. Over the years, Marchand has built his own family in Boston, and in his message, he emphasized that they will always consider themselves Bostonians.
He also stated that serving as the captain of the Boston Bruins was the greatest honor of his life and that wearing the team’s jersey for 16 years was a privilege. While he was unable to thank everyone individually, he assured Bruins fans that he was deeply grateful for his time with the organization and the city.
Currently, Marchand is recovering from an upper-body injury, and there is no confirmed timeline for his debut with the Panthers. The Florida organization officially introduced him on Monday morning.
Meanwhile, Bruins general manager Don Sweeney acknowledged that a key factor contributed to the decision to trade Marchand, though details on that aspect were not included in the farewell message.
As Marchand transitions to his new team, the Bruins and their fans will undoubtedly remember his contributions to the franchise.
