Clemson gymnastics star shocks the world by recreating Simone Biles’ move

The gymnastics world experienced a historic moment on March 1, 2025, when Clemson’s Brie Clark successfully performed the Biles 1 on floor exercise.

The Biles 1—a double layout with a half twist—is one of five highly difficult skills named after Simone Biles, widely regarded as the greatest gymnast of all time. By landing this move, Clark joins a small and elite group of gymnasts, including Biles herself, Trinity Thomas, Hillary Heron, and London Phillips.

Following her groundbreaking routine, fans began to wonder if Clark would attempt any of the other Biles-named skills in the future. She addressed the speculation during an appearance on ESPN’s Women Crush Wednesday on March 5.

When asked if she had plans to try more of Biles’ signature moves, Clark laughed and began to reply, “I wish, but I am just sticking…” before breaking into laughter, leaving her response unfinished and fans curious about what’s next.

Although she has no immediate plans to pursue additional Biles skills, Clark expressed deep admiration for the Olympic icon, explaining how Biles has influenced her gymnastics journey.

“She’s someone I’ve looked up to for a really long time, and she’s inspired me throughout my entire career,” Clark said.

Even Simone Biles herself acknowledged and celebrated Clark’s accomplishment, adding to the significance of the moment.

Clark’s historic achievement was just one highlight from a successful meet for Clemson gymnastics. In their victory over Texas Woman’s University, the Tigers posted strong performances across all events. Sophia Andrews shined with a 9.925 on balance beam, while Maya Thompson scored a 9.900 on uneven bars. Clark’s Biles 1 earned her a 9.800, a crucial score that contributed to the team’s overall win.

With this achievement, Brie Clark has firmly established herself as one of the rising stars in collegiate gymnastics. Whether or not she takes on another Biles skill, the gymnastics community will undoubtedly be watching to see what she does next.
