What would DeMarcus Lawrence’s free agent contract look like for Cowboys?

One of the major decisions the Dallas Cowboys will face this offseason revolves around long-time edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence, who is set to become a free agent in the coming days.

Dallas will need to decide whether to re-sign Lawrence for another season or allow him to walk and potentially join a new team — possibly even a contender where he could chase that elusive Super Bowl ring.

If Lawrence does hit the open market, what kind of contract could he expect?

Reports indicate that Lawrence could command a one-year deal worth around $5 million — a reasonable price for any team looking to add a veteran presence to its pass rush.

While Lawrence remains a talented player, several factors are working against him. Now 32 years old and coming off a season-ending injury, he hasn’t posted double-digit sacks since 2018. Given his age and recent health concerns, a short-term contract with performance incentives would make sense, especially after appearing in only four games last season.

That said, wherever Lawrence lands, the team that signs him will be adding one of the most skilled pass rushers in the league. Before his injury in 2024, Lawrence started strong, recording three sacks in just four games, along with 14 tackles, four tackles for loss, and five quarterback hits.

The biggest questions moving forward will be whether Lawrence can return to full health and sustain a high level of play throughout the season.
