Bills Reveal Khalil Shakir Extension Timeline

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Khalil Shakir is riding high after officially signing a new four-year contract worth $60.2 million this offseason.

Contract extensions in the NFL often take months to work out, as both the team and the player’s representatives usually have different ideas about the player’s value. Most of the time, the final agreement lands somewhere between both sides’ expectations. These negotiations can drag on, but getting a deal done early can benefit both the player and the team, especially when it comes to planning for free agency and managing the salary cap.

In Shakir’s case, the process moved fairly quickly. According to Shakir, not long after the season ended, he made it clear to his agents that staying with the Bills was his top priority. He emphasized how much he values playing alongside quarterback Josh Allen and how much it means to him to put on a Bills uniform and play in front of the passionate Bills Mafia fanbase. Shakir expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to continue his career in Buffalo.

Originally drafted in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Shakir was heading into the final year of his rookie contract in 2025. However, the Bills recognized his value and made sure to secure him with a long-term deal before that final year began.

With his new contract in place, Shakir now has the stability to focus entirely on improving his game and helping the team succeed. Coming off a strong 2024 season where he posted 821 receiving yards and four touchdowns, Shakir established himself as one of Buffalo’s most reliable offensive weapons outside of Josh Allen.

Now with his future set, Shakir’s focus is on elevating his performance even further in 2025, aiming to build on last year’s success and play an even larger role in the Bills’offense.
