Laijipa Naulivou Appointed New Fiji Rugby Union Director of Rugby
Laijipa Naulivou has officially taken over as the new Director of Rugby at the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU), stepping into the role following the resignation of Conway Begg. Begg, who cited increasing professional commitments and personal reasons for his departure, leaves behind a lasting impact on both grassroots and national rugby development in Fiji. His resignation was formally accepted after the completion of all necessary governance and regulatory procedures.
Naulivou’s appointment brings a wealth of experience to the position, particularly in the advancement of women’s rugby in Fiji. A trailblazer in the sport, she played a key role in its early development, captained the first-ever Fijiana team to Hong Kong, and later managed the squad during the inaugural Rugby World Cup.
Her expertise extends beyond rugby, as she has been actively involved in high-performance sports training, mental skills coaching, and elite-level athlete development across multiple disciplines, including hockey. With her strong background in sports leadership, Naulivou is expected to drive further progress in Fiji’s rugby landscape, reinforcing the nation’s status in the global rugby arena.
