Booger McFarland claims Notre Dame needs multiple “Turnovers” to defeat Ohio State

Notre Dame Prepares for Challenging Clash Against Ohio State

With Notre Dame set to face Ohio State in a high-stakes matchup, former NFL defensive tackle Booger McFarland highlighted the significant challenge awaiting the Fighting Irish. During an appearance on ESPN’s Get Up, McFarland emphasized that Notre Dame must force turnovers and capitalize on Ohio State’s mistakes to have a chance at an upset.

McFarland didn’t hold back, stating that Notre Dame needs more than just solid execution to compete. “They’re going to need turnovers. They’re going to need big plays,” he said. He added a humorous nod to Notre Dame’s famed “Touchdown Jesus,” urging the Irish to “get on their knees” and hope for divine intervention in what he described as a tough matchup.

McFarland stressed that the mental aspect of the game is critical. “Marcus Freeman has to convince his team…it’s about mindset. Can he convince a team that knows they’re out-manned that they can win? The greatest thing an athlete can have is belief.”

Ohio State’s Dominance

Ohio State enters the game as an 8.5-point favorite, according to FanDuel, and their recent performances justify the hype. The Buckeyes have dominated in the College Football Playoff, defeating Tennessee and Oregon by a combined 45 points before a 28-14 victory over Texas. Their offense generated 370 total yards against the Longhorns, including 289 passing yards, and their defense ranks first nationally, allowing just 251.1 yards per game.

Notre Dame’s Strengths and Challenges

Despite being underdogs, Notre Dame boasts its own strengths. The Fighting Irish rank second nationally in pass defense, giving up only 165.3 yards per game, which could counter Ohio State’s potent aerial attack. Quarterback Riley Leonard leads with resilience and embodies the team’s fighting spirit.

However, Notre Dame faces obstacles, including injuries to key players. Offensive lineman Anthonie Knapp is out for the season, and star running back Jeremiyah Love is battling a knee issue.
