“Stunned”: Jamie Carragher expressed his shock at the Sol Campbell incident following Spurs’ last White Hart Lane match

Currently, Jamie Carragher is remembering Sol Campbell’s outrage at not being invited to Tottenham Hotspur’s White Hart Lane closure.

Playing 301 games for Spurs, Sol Campbell left the team in 2001, taking with him a great deal of animosity.

Campbell did not sign a new contract with Tottenham before making the free transfer to north London.

Campbell was eager to stay for a longer time, according to his agent at the time, but at the last minute, Arsenal’s ambition wooed him. This claim has never wavered.

Naturally, Campbell continued on a career path that few others had before him, playing 211 times for Arsenal.

In addition, Campbell was genuinely surprised and offended that he wasn’t among the 80 well-known people invited to the White Hart Lane closing ceremony in 2017.

Now that the response has been discussed on The Overlap, Jamie Carragher has stated that he was surprised that Campbell believed Tottenham would engage him.

Carragher was perplexed by the defender’s response since he believed there was no possibility the player would be invited.

Jamie Carragher finds Sol Campbell’s response to Tottenham’s snub astonishing.

When it came to the seeming rejection, Carragher believed it was clear that those relationships were destroyed.

“I was flabbergasted,” he added. Recall how Sol Campbell became quite irate when White Hart Lane’s final game was held without inviting any of the legends, despite their invitation to all of them.

“What do you anticipate, I asked? He was not going to be invited in any way.

Naturally, many Tottenham supporters will likely agree with Carragher and believe the team made the correct decision by not inviting Campbell.

Given their animosity, the former defender—who is now considered somewhat of an Arsenal legend—can’t really have it both ways.

Ultimately, it appears that Campbell’s choice to relocate to a different part of north London was bound to damage his tenure at Spurs, regardless of what transpired thereafter.

Having said that, it would be interesting to watch how a deal like this plays out in the current Ange Postecoglou and Mikel Arteta era.

For the time being, though, we’ll probably have to make do with a competitive match at the top of the Premier League.

Having said that, Fabio Paratici believes that Tottenham has a player that possesses Giorgio Chiellini’s traits.
