Manchester United make surprise decision on Rasmus Hojlund – Reports

Manchester United have reportedly opted not to sell Rasmus Hojlund during the upcoming summer transfer window, despite recent rumors suggesting the striker could leave Old Trafford. According to a report from The Athletic, the club’s management is keen on keeping the number nine, even as interest grows from clubs like Juventus and Napoli.

Hojlund’s time at Manchester United has not gone as smoothly as hoped since his high-profile move from Atalanta in the summer of 2023. The transfer reportedly cost United £72 million. During his debut season, he featured in 43 matches across all competitions and scored 16 goals, 10 of which came in the Premier League.

This season has followed a similar trajectory, with the 22-year-old Danish forward continuing to struggle for consistent form. His competition for minutes increased with the arrival of Joshua Zirkzee at the start of the campaign. So far this term, Hojlund has played 44 matches across all competitions, netting eight goals.

The decision to retain Hojlund is believed to be rooted in the club’s long-term vision, as management reportedly values his potential and considers him an important part of their future. With his contract running until 2028, it’s uncertain whether Manchester United would be able to recover much of their original investment if they chose to sell him now.

Hojlund’s underwhelming goal return could also be attributed to the team’s overall struggles this season, with the club currently sitting 13th in the Premier League standings.

In related news, Antony has shown signs of resurgence since joining Real Betis on loan in January. His current loan spell is set to end in the summer, at which point he is expected to return to Manchester United. The Brazilian winger has contributed four goals and four assists during his time with the La Liga side.

Reflecting on his previous struggles at United, Antony opened up about the personal challenges he faced, which affected his performances on the pitch. He explained that off-field issues had a significant impact on his game, acknowledging his own potential and referencing his appearance at the World Cup as proof of his abilities.

During his time with Manchester United, Antony made 96 appearances and recorded 12 goals and five assists. However, he may find it difficult to reclaim a starting role due to the rise of young talent Amad Diallo.
