Before the LPGA’s first major of the season takes center stage, all eyes are on the 2025 JM Eagle LA Championship—an increasingly prestigious tournament now in its seventh edition. This year, the event is being held at a new location, the El Caballero Country Club in Los Angeles, California, offering players a fresh challenge on unfamiliar turf.
The tournament has grown significantly in stature and prize money. After boosting its purse to $3.75 million in 2024—up from $1.5 million in 2022—it now boasts the largest non-major prize on the LPGA Tour. Of the 144 participants in the field, only the top 70 will earn a share of the purse, with the champion pocketing $562,500.
Two-time defending champion Hannah Green returns not only to chase a historic three-peat but also to support a good cause. She pledged to donate $500 for every birdie she makes during the tournament, hoping her performance can make a meaningful impact. Green stated, “I’m hoping that we do get a turnout and we can actually make a big difference during the tournament week.”
The competition, however, is fierce. Big names like Nelly Korda and Minjee Lee are eyeing the title as well. Although past contenders Lydia Ko and Charley Hull are sitting this one out—Ko last competed at the T-Mobile Match Play and placed T35—the tournament still promises stiff competition.
Ingrid Lindblad has emerged as the breakout performer of the week, stealing the spotlight with a brilliant 63 in her second round, fueled by ten birdies. The 25-year-old newcomer is tied for the lead alongside Ashleigh Buhai, making her a serious contender for her first LPGA title. Just one shot behind is Minjee Lee, who has been in strong form—highlighted by her career-best 62 in February at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, where she tied for fourth.
As for Hannah Green, she carded a solid 67 in Round 2, placing her at T20, three strokes behind the leaders. While the road to a third straight title is steep, it’s still within reach—especially if she can capitalize on moving day and close the gap heading into the final round.
With the stakes high and a packed field of talent, the 2025 JM Eagle LA Championship is shaping up to be a thrilling lead-in to the LPGA’s major season. The question remains—can Green complete her three-peat, or will a new champion rise in LA?
