Watch: Pete Alonso goes viral for helping Francisco Lindor with signature ‘Polar Bear’ strength

The New York Mets are off to a strong start in the 2025 MLB season, powered by the dynamic duo of Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor. As key figures in the franchise’s recent resurgence, the pair helped guide the Mets to their first NLCS appearance since 2015 last season, and they’re keeping that momentum going.

With an 8-4 record so far, the Mets sit in second place in the NL East. They just wrapped up a three-game series against the Miami Marlins, taking two out of three games for their second series win over the Marlins this year.

One light-hearted moment stood out in the series finale. While Lindor was in the on-deck circle preparing for his at-bat, he found himself unable to remove the bat donut—a weighted ring used during warmups—from his bat. Despite repeatedly slamming the bat against the ground, it wouldn’t budge. That’s when teammate Pete Alonso stepped in from the dugout, using his strength to yank the donut off the bat, drawing laughs from the crowd and players.

Although the Mets dropped that final game 5-0, they secured the series win and continue to show promise, especially with the addition of Dominican star Juan Soto over the offseason. The team is developing a well-balanced roster, and Alonso has emerged as their offensive leader.

Alonso is currently tearing it up at the plate, batting .333 with three home runs, 15 RBIs, and a 1.118 OPS through 12 games. He’s on pace to hit over 40 homers and drive in 100+ runs this season. Lindor, after a slower start, has started to find his rhythm. He’s hitting .244 with one home run, five RBIs, and a .658 OPS in 11 games. If his current pace holds, he’s projected for 20+ home runs and 70+ RBIs this season.

With strong support from players like Brandon Nimmo and Juan Soto, and Alonso’s power carrying the lineup, the Mets have set their sights on returning to the postseason—and maybe even capturing that elusive National League pennant.
