Swire Shipping Fijian Drua head coach Glen Jackson has made several key changes to his squad for their Round 9 Shop N Save Super Rugby match against the Highlanders this weekend.
Young halfback Philip Baselala has been included on the bench, marking his return to the matchday 23 after a two-year absence. His last appearance for the Drua was in Round 8 of the 2023 season, when they faced the Brumbies.
In the starting lineup, Caleb Muntz has been moved to fullback, shifting from his usual position. With regular leaders Tevita Ikanivere and Frank Lomani unavailable for selection, Jackson has named Mesulame Dolokoto and Iosefo Masi as the new co-captains for this match.
The forward pack features Haereiti Hetet at loosehead prop, Mesake Doge at tighthead, and Mesulame Dolokoto in the hooker position. The lock combination remains unchanged with Mesake Vocevoce and Isoa Nasilasila holding their places. On the flanks, Joseva Tamani will start as blindside flanker, joined by Isoa Tuwai on the openside. Elia Canakaivata fills the number 8 role.
In the backline, Simione Kuruvoli will start at halfback and will partner with flyhalf Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula. The wing positions will be covered by Ponipate Loganimasi on the left and Selestino Ravutaumada on the right. Inia Tabuavou is set to start at inside center, with Iosefo Masi at outside center. Muntz, as mentioned earlier, will play at fullback.
On the bench, the replacement front row consists of Zuriel Togiatama (hooker), Peni Ravai (loosehead prop), and Samuela Tawake (tighthead prop). Leone Rotuisolia has been named to provide cover for the locks, while Vilive Miramira is listed as the backup for the loose forwards. Philip Baselala returns as halfback cover, with Isikeli Rabitu covering flyhalf duties. Tuidraki Samusamuvodre completes the bench as the utility backline player.
These selections reflect the coaching staff’s efforts to balance player fitness and form as the season progresses, while also managing injury-related absences.
