Al-Nassr director appears to hint at future sale of Cristiano Ronaldo’s teammate who they signed in January

Al-Nassr Open to Selling Jhon Duran Amid Strong Start – Cristiano Ronaldo’s Teammate Already Impressing

Al-Nassr sporting director Fernando Hierro has revealed that the club could consider selling young striker Jhon Duran in the future, despite his impressive start. The 21-year-old Colombian forward joined the Saudi club from Aston Villa during the winter transfer window for a reported fee of £71 million.

Since his arrival, Duran has made a strong impact, scoring seven goals in just 10 appearances. Although he’s under contract with Al-Nassr until 2030, Hierro suggested that the club’s long-term strategy includes signing young talent with the intention of eventually selling them to generate value.

In a recent statement quoted by AS Colombia via Sport Witness, Hierro explained:

“We have young players like Durán and others, and that’s important for both investing and selling in the future. This will increase the value of the clubs.”

He went on to highlight the importance of building a sustainable project, especially with Saudi Arabia set to host the FIFA World Cup in the coming years:

“The Saudi Arabian League invites everyone to come and see the Saudi players. It’s an important project for me, one that must be sustainable… I’m pleasantly surprised, and this is attracting the attention of others.”

Given Cristiano Ronaldo is nearing the end of his legendary career, some may argue that Al-Nassr should prioritize retaining talents like Duran, who could become central to the club’s future.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Record at Al-Nassr

Ronaldo has been instrumental for Al-Nassr since joining the club in December 2022. He has scored an outstanding 94 goals in 104 appearances across all competitions. That includes six goals in six matches during the Arab Club Champions Cup, a tournament he helped Al-Nassr win.

While the league title has continued to elude Ronaldo, the club remains in the hunt for silverware this season. His current contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign. However, MARCA reported earlier that Ronaldo has agreed to a one-year extension that will keep him at the club until next summer.

The extension includes a reported €183 million salary and a 5% stake in the club, further solidifying his status as one of the highest-paid athletes globally.
