Coco Gauff has always made it a point to celebrate Black hairstyles through her tennis career. Speaking in April last year, she proudly shared her commitment to showcasing styles like box braids, twists, and her natural curls, highlighting that her hair is a strong form of self-expression. This passion aligned naturally with her partnership with Carol’s Daughter, a brand known for promoting natural hair care. Since signing a multi-year deal with them, Gauff has participated in multiple campaigns to reinforce their mission of celebrating Black beauty and empowering a new generation.
In her own words, Gauff expressed her excitement in helping Carol’s Daughter inspire women and girls to embrace their curls and coils with pride. The brand, established in 1993, has grown significantly with backing from influential figures like Will Smith, Oprah Winfrey, and Jay-Z, and Gauff is honored to be part of their journey.
Lisa Price, the founder of Carol’s Daughter, was equally thrilled to bring Coco into the fold. She emphasized the importance of representation in tennis and saw Gauff’s presence as a beacon of hope and inspiration for future generations, echoing the sentiment: “If you can see it, you can be it.”
Just recently, Carol’s Daughter shared a new video on their Instagram, where Gauff discusses her favorite aspect of her hair—its versatility. She proudly says she can style it in many ways—braids, twists, or straightened—and each look is a reflection of her personality. In the ad, she promotes the brand’s new curl restoration bonding treatment, which she trusts to keep her hair strong and healthy after every style.
Gauff has often opened up about her hair choices. She explained that she likes braids the most because they’re practical, especially when sweating during matches. Without braids, her hair tends to dry out due to sweat, making the maintenance tougher.
Beyond her influence in hair and beauty, Gauff’s presence extends to the fashion world. While many recognize her as a rising tennis star, she’s also earning attention as a fashion icon. Gauff admits to loving fashion and makeup, citing brands like Miu Miu, Ganni, and Fendi among her favorites. She believes looking good on the outside can positively influence how she performs on the court.
In a 2023 interview, when told she was trending on tennis fashion social media, she smiled in amusement, later sharing the moment on Instagram with a playful “LOL” caption. Her interest in beauty began early—she watched makeup tutorials as a child and convinced her mom to let her buy her first mascara at age 12. Over time, she built her skills by watching YouTubers like Jackie Aina, Alissa Ashley, and Patrick Starrr.
Despite these exciting off-court ventures, Gauff recently faced a setback on the tennis rankings. Jessica Pegula’s win in Charleston moved her ahead of Gauff, making Pegula the new world No. 3 and the top-ranked American. Gauff now sits at No. 4, marking her first drop from the top three since October 2024.
Still, with her talent and resilience, fans are optimistic that she can climb back up the rankings quickly.
