Viwa Naduvalo Reflects on Dream Come True After Fiji’s Singapore 7s Triumph
Fiji Airways men’s 7s star Viwa Naduvalo is living his dream. The speedster, who scored two tries and was named Player of the Final in Fiji’s 21-12 victory over Kenya in the Singapore leg of the 2024/2025 HSBC Sevens Series, shared a heartfelt moment reflecting on how far he’s come.
As a schoolboy, Naduvalo watched that unforgettable final between Fiji and Kenya in 2016, where now-head coach Osea Kolinisau led the team as a player. Fast forward to 2025, and Naduvalo is not only wearing the same jersey but is also playing under the guidance of the very man he once idolized.
“I was once a schoolboy when I watched our coach win the gold medal and also when he played in the previous years during his playing time,” said Naduvalo. “He was one of the players I looked up to. He is a very hardworking person, humble and very helpful in what I have achieved.”
The victory marked Fiji’s second tournament win of the season, a strong sign of momentum under Kolinisau’s leadership. The team now turns its focus to the Los Angeles 7s, scheduled for May 3–4 at Dignity Health Sports Park. Fiji has been drawn into a tough Pool B alongside Spain, Australia, and traditional rivals New Zealand.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team also faces stiff competition in their Pool B draw, with matches set against Australia, France, and the USA.
Both Fijian teams will be looking to carry their momentum and national pride into LA as the race for Series glory heats up.
