In an exclusive conversation with PGATOUR.com, Nantz addressed the speculation head-on. He shared that his assistant, Melissa, came across some old articles from a decade ago in which he lightheartedly mentioned attending the 100th Masters in 2036. This offhand remark seems to have been misinterpreted as a concrete retirement timeline.
Nantz clarified, “It goes longer than that,” referring to his passion and plans to remain in broadcasting well beyond 2036. He emphasized that the circulating news wasn’t based on anything new or official, calling it “false news” that had been recycled.
A Misunderstood Comment
Nantz admitted he was surprised by how much traction the old quotes received. He found the attention somewhat uncomfortable, saying the topic was overblown and manipulated by how it was presented. “The content police really let their guard down,” he remarked, pointing out how such stories can take on a life of their own when spun in a misleading way.
Still Going Strong
As he prepares to call his 40th Masters Tournament, Nantz remains deeply committed to his work. He looks back on his decades-long career with gratitude and has no plans of stepping away anytime soon. His recent comments make it clear: Jim Nantz is still very much in the game, and he’s not ready to hang up the mic just yet.
So, while aging is inevitable, retirement for Jim Nantz? Not happening anytime soon.
