In a remarkable blend of athletic excellence and inspirational leadership, Simone Biles, the most decorated gymnast in history, has been announced as the keynote speaker for Washington University’s 164th Commencement ceremony on May 12, 2025. During the event, Biles will be honored with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree, recognizing her outstanding contributions to sports and advocacy.

Chancellor Andrew D. Martin expressed enthusiasm about Biles addressing the graduates, stating, “I am excited to share that Simone Biles, a legendary athlete and role model, will address the members of the WashU Class of 2025 and their guests at Commencement.”

This announcement follows Biles’ exceptional performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she added four medals to her collection—three golds in the team final, individual all-around, and vault, and a silver in floor exercise. These achievements have solidified her status as the most decorated gymnast of all time, with a total of 11 Olympic medals and 30 World Championship medals.

Beyond her athletic prowess, Biles has been a vocal advocate for mental health, inspiring many with her courage to prioritize well-being. Her upcoming address is anticipated to motivate graduates by sharing insights from her journey of resilience, dedication, and advocacy.
